Some sketchbook work

Well I can't deny work on this new project has been somewhat slow, things have been happening, but that's another story. Here're some scans of sketchbook work so far, and it's becoming increasingly apparent to me that I need a new scanner. Call me a traditionalist, but when you plug your scanner in, you expect it not to make your computer blue-screen. The perils of the new age.

Filthy Animal

This next project will pretty much be my first foray into the vast world of textures, and what a terrifying world it is too. Currently experimenting with what the Bearskin character will look like after 7 years of not washing. I scanned in my own hair for his hair, and the beard and filth upon him are made of what I gathered from a carpet in my house that hasn't been hoovered since we moved in.
Starting to feel a worrying affinity with the character.

Crafty Crafty

A quick concept sketch of the Devil for my next project, perhaps. He shall be referred to as Mephistophiles, just because it's cooler.

Bearskin

Self defined project, what fun. I want to work a bit more with colour and type, so it's looking likely that I'll end up illustrating a narrative. Again.
Doing The Owl and the Pussycat last year was super fun though, so it's all good, hopefully. Trouble is I can't seem to decide what story to illustrate. There's this nice one called Bearskin, which is a german fairytale in which a man makes a deal with the Devil, but one of the conditions is that he has to live for a couple of years in a bearskin. Cozy.

H G Wells - (Final) versions

What I ended up submitting this morning, though I think the text needs more
playing around with to make them fit together a bit more.

H G Wells Concept sketches 2

That is a Chris Cornell jigglypuff, super rare

H G Wells concept sketches

Just dumping the first sketches I did for this H G Wells project,
back when I hadn't even decided which books I was going to do.

Baby book covers

Printed out little wee versions to get an idea of what they'll look like. Fairly pleased so far but they need tweaking here and there. Also I'm a fool, and printed out the wrong version of Kipps, so it has no back cover material. Spoonman.

You don't want to know what the writing on the desk says.

Turbo Future Racing Action

I seem to always work in the most unorganised of fashions, so I decided to scan and draw together some pictures that relate to a personal project I have haunting the corners of my sketchbook. Want to turn it into a comic about motorbike (or maybe pushbike) racing in the 23rd century. Knowing me this almost certainly won't happen.
I think what I want to do more of in general is some retro future stuff, like Dan Dare or Buck Rogers, that stuff is da bomb (super retro there).
Nonetheless I hope the horrendously camp jumpsuit on the right of this picture gives somebody pleasure.
