Even more super fun adventures in type

From my sketchbook today.
The readability of these is just verging on obtuse now

Take 2

I am just throwing quite irrelevant nonsense at this blog now but I simply don't care.
Another idle picture of Hel, but garnished with TEXT
and a top.

Skellington

The list of things I one day want to do stories on is far too long and full of nonsense.
One of these things is Hel, the norse goddess of death.
Business at the front...skeleton at the back.

Sensing a theme

Just wanted to try and draw with happy happy colours.
I might get bored of drawing cowgirls eventually.

GUNSGIRLSBANG

Tried drawing with limited outlines yesterday, so
having a go at drawing the other way around today.

Maybe I should try doing something with vivid colours.

That scares me.

Super exciting

COMING SOON MAYBE BUT PROBABLY NOT

I would like to make a comic about some new characters I've been
dreaming up. Namely, an immortal zombie gunslinger pacifist and
a needlessly violent sidekick.
Chances are this will all be forgotten by tomorrow

Moar

Starting to stray towards the bare bones of a character.
...Hah!

I'm sorry, what

No sé lo que es esto, yo estaba dibujando una calavera y sucedió.
Algo así como que si.

Debe ser bastante obvio que no puedo hablar español.

This...

is how I want to feel

Uggh fucking illness

A Protagonist maybe

Couple of sketches both trying out a new style and trying to make a new character. It wasn't intentional but the first one at least pretty much turned into Clint Eastwood. I've been watching too many westerns.

GUN GUN GUN slinger man is slowly changing from a stupid phrase I keep writing on everything into an actual project. It could be dreadful. Stay tuned for more GUNS

Second Waaaave

FEND THEM OFF WITH YOUR GUN BANG
Actually there's only one zombie this time. Need to stop drawing them

Das Raaaargh

Watched Dead Snow today and had to draw zombie Nazis.
That is all

This post started out with one picture but I can't seem to stop drawing and updating.
Trying out different ways of drawing to what I normally do and I kind of like what's happening. Maybe I should draw like this moar.

This film is so long

Watching The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly and doing a bit of sketching. I wanted to draw Clint Eastwood but it turns out I can't, so I made it into no-one in particular.
I've had an idea for a project for a while now called Gun Gun Gunslinger man, so maybe it can be part of that. Well, I say I've got an idea, I've just got the title.
Mreh.

Scraps

There's a big pile of cardboard in uni that once ferried around delicious fresh sushi, but now it's strewn around the floor near where I work, and from the amount, I'd say it's started to breed. Been doodling on it.

Zine wednesday

We had an afternoon of making zines in Uni yesterday, which was splendid. Scanned in my effort, here it is. I assigned myself a palette of a few flat colours and just thought I'd see what I came up with. Just nonsense.

I have mixed feelings about font based witticisms.

More super fun adventures in type

NIdling doodling more experiments with type of an evening.

When you read a book, does it feel pleasure? If so, what's a bookgasm look like?

That's possibly the most ridiculous thing I've ever written.

Font puns are the best* kind of puns

*worst

Adventures in type

Was idly messing around on a sheet of paper and found out that I rather like arsing around with type. I'd rather like to make a book that's simply obstinate and difficult to read, and when you do discover what it actually says, it's just insulting you. Maybe the best thing is not to try and read it at all.
If anyone can actually read half the stuff posted here, you'll win a special thumbs up.

P p p pink and pointless

Yup.

And you failed to steal a trolley

Saw this guy in sainsbury's last night, it was Ridiculous. Where does he keep his balls?
But I quite enjoyed his friend who had a basket entirely full of tropicana, reggae reggae sauce, and basics 10p noodles. Student shopping.

A baddy perhaps

I want to do some kind of wild west story at some point, idly doodling characters as they pop into my head. Maybe this comically proportioned chap can be a villain.

Some stuff

A brief attempt at designing the human girl character for my project. In an ideal world I'd like to do a lot more sketching and experimenting, but the touslehaired ginge that appeared seems to fit quite well, in my mind at least. And then I drew the demon girl character all grown up, for no good reason. Still playing around with a style of suggesting forms and whatnot with a limited amount of information, probably because I've been watching too many cartoons.
That aside, cartoons can be pretty inspiring, especially if Genndy Tartakovsky is involved. Anyone remember Samurai Jack? Some fantastic stuff came out of that, courtesy of Scott Wills, Dan Krall and Bill Wray. Have a Google, have a gander.

P.S. Every time I glance at the second image of mine the colour(s) makes me think of Penelope Pitstop. Might have to watch Wacky Racers.

Tuesday, 26 October 2010

Tee hee hee

I was watching some of that old animated batman last night and just had to draw Harley Quinn, she's a hilarious villain.
Tried out a wee signature too.

Settle down for god's sake

So I seem to have changed what I'm doing for my project for the fourth time now. First I was doing a girl and a dark knight, then it was a kid meets a drunken pumpkin, then it was an incompetent scarecrow chasing some stubborn crows, and now it's about a little demon girl meets a little human girl. Goddamn.
Posting a few sketchbook pages showing the progression of the demon girl's character design and then a quick go at it in photoshop. Trying to aim for just an average if curious little girl, who just happens to also be a demon. I do like her gaptoothed smile quite a bit.
A-hyuck.

Perhaps, perhaps not

I've kind of derailed myself from my current project by thinking that I might want to do an animation, and that's thrown up a whole hornets' nest of ideas and problems and now I can't seem to pin any concept down anymore. So for the sake of posting something, here're a couple of animation tests I've been idly doing in PAP (they look a lot smoother there, but saving as a gif seems to make the frames quite disobedient).
Been reading some books about animation, specifically one called "The Illusion of Life" by a couple of the old school Disney animators, and it's pretty much animation's answer to the Bible. And a nice jaunt through history back when Disney was the tip top animation studio, it's a shame that they've lost the qualities that made them Disney in the first place, though at least Pixar have taken up the reins of those ideals.
So I might do an animation. What's the subject?
Uhhhhhhhhh.....
